2022 Sonoma Coast Rosé
This Rosé of 100% Pinot Noir shows a copper-pink color with aromas of strawberry, spicy Carnation blossom, citrus essence, and yeasty notes from six months of sur lie aging. The palate is crisp and elegant, with mineral infused acidity that is focused to a bone-dry finish.
2022 was a fine vintage on the North Coast. Another low rainfall winter resulted in very early bud break, leading to an early harvest of smaller than normal crop size. 2022 was one of the earliest vintages we’ve had with the sparkling wine harvest starting August 5th. Despite the early year, excellent summer weather did not rush the ripening, which led to well developed and complex aromas and flavors showing excellent vineyard character. In fact, ripening was quite normal, with vines receiving lots of hang time, essential for developing depth and complexity. 2022 wines are very expressive and full of freshness with vibrant acids and layered, rich mouthfeels. Another excellent year!
This marks the fifth bottling of our Rosé of Pinot Noir. We picked this Pinot Noir from two vineyards. 68% from a Martinelli Family-owned vineyard, planted to Dijon Clone 115, located on River Road at their winery estate while 32% came from Two Dryers Vineyard on Bodega Highway. We picked the fruit on August 18th and 19th. These grapes were picked specifically for rosé, so while properly ripened they had much higher levels of acid and produced lower alcohol.
